River levels falling

FRANKLIN—Flooding on the Blackwater River is receding after last week’s rain caused the river to rise, according to National Weather Service data.

The river crested at 13.53 feet Sunday, well below the originally forecasted 15.4 feet crest. At 9:45 a.m. Monday, the river level near Franklin was 13.14 feet, still above the flood stage of 12 feet.

The river is expected to fall below the flood stage by Wednesday morning.

The Nottoway River near Sebrell rose to 14.63 feet over the weekend, well below the flood stage of 16 feet. At 9:15 a.m. Monday, the river was at 13.25 feet.
