FRANKLIN—The Virginia Department of Transportation has closed a section of the U.S. Route 58 bypass in Southampton County due to flooding from heavy rain overnight.

The westbound lanes of U.S. Route 58 are closed and eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane at the Delaware Road overpass. Traffic is being detoured through Franklin.

Motorists traveling westbound should take Armory Drive to College Drive, College Drive to Business Route 58 West, Business Route 58 West to 58 West.

Motorists traveling eastbound from Emporia should use take Business Route 58 East to College Drive, College Drive to Armory Drive and Armory Drive to Route 58 East.
