FRANKLIN—Both the Blackwater and Nottoway rivers are expected to reach the flood stage over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Between late Tuesday night and early Friday morning more than 14 inches of rain fell in Courtland, said Wayne Albright, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Wakefield office. A little more than 5 inches of rain fell during the same time period in the Carrsville area.
The Nottoway River near Sebrell is expected to rise to 18 feet, or a moderate flood stage, and stay above the flood stage into next week.
The Blackwater River near Franklin is expected to rise to 15.4 feet over the weekend and remain above flood stage into next week. At 12 feet, the Blackwater River floods portions of the Barrett’s Landing river walk and the boat landing parking area off Joyners Bridge Road.
