Youth football league opens Wednesday

FRANKLIN—The Franklin-Southampton Youth Football League will kick off its 2010 season on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Armory Field.

General Motors Corp. and Mike Duman Chevrolet donated money to the Franklin-Southampton Youth Football League’s Franklin Mustangs, coached by Rob Carter. The presentation was made at halftime of Friday night’s game between Franklin High School and Middlesex. On hand were, from left, Duman representative Jim Hansford, Denise Person, Carter, Bruce Brown, Michael Bradshaw, J.D. Sweat and Clarence Freeman. GM also donated equipment bags, water coolers and signs to promote the team. The Mustangs will be selling raffle tickets at $2 apiece for a chance to win a new GM vehicle in a nationwide drawing. The first game will be a B Team contest between the Franklin Mustangs and Courtland at 6:15 p.m. The Holland Razorbacks will face the Boykins Bulldogs, who were the 2008 champions, at 7.

The Courtland Indians will play defending league champion Franklin Mustangs at 8 p.m.

The Windsor Knights have a bye the first week of the season.

The league consists of youth between ages 10 and 13 with teams from Boykins, Courtland, Franklin, Holland and Windsor.

Thursday, Oct. 7: B Team Franklin vs. Holland 6:15 p.m., Windsor vs. Holland 7 p.m. and Franklin vs. Boykins 8 p.m., all games at Armory Field

Thursday, Oct. 14: B Team Windsor vs. Holland 6:15 p.m., Courtland vs. Holland 7 p.m. and Windsor vs. Boykins 8 p.m., all games in Windsor

Thursday, Oct. 21: B Team Courtland vs. Boykins 6:15 p.m., Windsor vs. Franklin 7 p.m. and Courtland vs. Boykins 8 p.m., all games at Southampton

Thursday, Oct. 28: B Team Franklin vs. Boykins 6:15 p.m., Windsor vs. Courtland 7 p.m. and Franklin vs. Holland 8 p.m., all games at Armory Field

Thursday, Nov. 4 Playoffs: B Team Courtland vs. Windsor 6:15 p.m., second-place team vs. third-place team 7 p.m. and first-place team vs. fourth-place team 8 p.m., all games at Southampton

Wednesday, Nov. 10 Championship: B Team Franklin vs. Windsor 6:15 p.m., B Team Holland vs. Boykins 7 p.m. and Championship game 8 p.m., all games at Armory Field.
