FARMVILLE—Southampton High School, behind Billy Nixon’s four touchdown passes, evened its record at 2-2 and won its Southside District opener 28-7 over Prince Edward on Friday.

The Eagles, 0-4, struck first with a 45-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 in the first quarter, but SHS responded immediately with a 55-yard scoring toss from Nixon to Karon Evans. The extra point by Travis Boone evened the score at 7-7.

The Indians broke the tie on a 3-yard pass from Nixon to Evans in the second quarter. The kick by Boone made it 14-7.

Southampton made it 21-7 on a 2-yard strike from Nixon to Jamal Johnson in the third quarter and completed the rout with another Nixon-to-Evans connection of 15 yards in the final frame.

“We played much better defensively,” said SHS head coach Wes Griffith. “We got a whole game out of all parts of our defense. When the running game was struggling, we were able to throw the ball.”

The Indians host Bluestone next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
