COURTLAND—A Franklin man accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with a boy 25 years ago is set to appear in Southampton County Circuit Court for his second trial Sept. 30.

Samuel Parker Drewry is accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with a boy in 1985, when the youth was 12 and 13 years old.

After a two-day trial in April, a jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision on the charges against Drewry, leading a judge to declare a mistrial.

Franklin police arrested Drewry in August 2009 and charged him with three counts of aggravated sexual battery of a juvenile. The third charge was dropped last November.

During the April trial, Drewry denied the allegations and his attorneys questioned why it took the alleged victim nearly 25 years to report the abuse to police.

The alleged victim, now in his late 30s, testified he didn’t tell anyone about the alleged sexual assaults because he was scared and embarrassed.
