Make sure you get out to the Isle of Wight County Fair this weekend.

The fair, which opened Thursday at Heritage Park in Windsor, is sure to offer something for everyone. There will be all kinds of entertainment, displays of canned goods and vegetables, 4-H animals, amusement rides, good food and so much more.

Fair organizers also are bringing in top-rated entertainment. At 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, country star Jason Michael Carroll will perform. According to information provided by fair officials, Carroll was signed to Arista Nashville, and his first album, Waitin’ in the Country, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. His first two singles, “Alyssa Lies” and “Livin’ Our Love Song,” shot into the Top 5.

The evening will start off with Silver Street at 5 p.m. and Southern Heartland at 7. Silver Street plays country, rock, oldies and beach music. Southern Heartland, previously known as Unlimited Access, is a hard-driving, high energy southern rock and country band whose music has been thrilling Hampton Roads since 2003.

Sunday’s big draw on the main stage is ACM, CMA and Grammy award winners The Kentucky Headhunters. The Edmonton-based hillbilly rockers got off to a huge start with 1989’s “Pickin’ On Nashville,” which went multi-platinum.

The Kentucky HeadHunters have sold more than 6 million records over the last 17 years.

The show starts at 4:30 p.m. with local favorites Past Due at 2:30.

There’s another good thing about going to the fair. You’re sure to run into a neighbor or friend you haven’t seen in awhile. In our busy everyday lives, there’s not always time to socialize. The fair is a good time to do just that.

Organizers of the Isle of Wight County Fair work hard all year to put on the event. Show your appreciation by going.

The fair is open 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 3 and under.
