Franklin – Shirley Cornwell Stainback, 72, widow of Wilbur Wallace Stainback, died September 14, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Madeline Brinkley and John R. Cornwell, Sr. and was predeceased by three brothers, Tink, Alton, and Bobby Cornwell. Mrs. Stainback was a member of High Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda S. McGuire and husband, Daniel of Franklin; her son, John W. Stainback and wife, Cetia of Sedley; two grandchildren, Tiffany S. Berry and husband, Craig and Michelle Stainback, all of Franklin; two great-grandchildren, Travis and Colin Berry, one brother, Richard E. Cornwell of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Susan Reaves officiating. Interment will follow in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm today (Wednesday) at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ms. Kathy Worrell, 717 Fairview Drive, Franklin, Va. 23851
