WAKEFIELD—Lamont Moore’s interception for a 44-yard touchdown was a tremendous play, but not enough to give Tidewater Academy a win on Friday night.

In a back-and-forth battle, Tidewater fell short 27-24 to Brunswick Academy.

“I couldn’t have asked for more,” said Tidewater Coach David Rodgers. “They gave me everything they had.”

Brunswick’s Tyler Parrish opened scoring with a touchdown run with 6:05 left in the first quarter. The kick was good.

With Tidewater’s next possession, quarterback Ferley Yerby threw a touchdown pass to Dale Rickmond with 4:53 left in the first quarter. An attempt to run in for two points failed, making the score 7-6 in favor of Brunswick.

Brunswick scored first in the second quarter, but missed the extra point.

With 9:42 left in the half, Moore caught an interception and ran 44 yards for the score. The two-point conversion failed.

Nick Belmonte then scored on run for Brunswick with 4:45 left in the second quarter.

Tidewater’s James Price responded with a touchdown less than a minute later.

Brunswick led 20-18 at the half.

The teams battled it out in the second half, with Brunswick scoring the first touchdown with 1:50 left in the quarter.

Tidewater’s defense kicked it up a notch, putting Brunswick in a third-down position with 28-yards to go for a first down. Tidewater gained possession of the ball and Yerby ran the ball in for a 28-yard touchdown. The run for the extra two points failed.
