FRANKLIN—Southampton High School girls volleyball team defeated Franklin 25-4, 25-11 and 25-10 during a recent non-district game.

“We had a good night serving and our offense looked strong,” said Lady Indians Coach Chad Brock. “We still need to work on our defense.”

Southampton leaders were Kendra Edwards with 10 assists, Marisa Cabell with 7 aces and Megan Revelle with 4 kills.

Southampton is 1-0 and Franklin is 0-2 for the season.

The Lady Broncos are playing with a young team.

“The girls will grow as they progress through the season,” said Franklin Coach Marilyn Freeman.

The team has one returning player — Victoria Barrett. Other key players are expected to be Aerial Darden, Jennifer Jervey, Asya Lee and Vontisha Redmond.

“My entire team graduated last year so I brought up quite a few of last year’s JV girls,” Freeman said. “We have some experience. We’re growing, we’re learning, and we’re trying to teach them new things.”

During the game against Southampton, Freeman said she saw a few things to work on in practice.

“Communication has to be key for our team,” she said. “I think they were a little bit more nervous because it was Southampton, and they’re always a big rival, but hopefully they will gain their confidence and step up.”

“We’ve got some hardworking girls, and we have a few things we need to turn around,” Freeman continued.

The Lady Indians also won the junior varsity game 25-7, 25-7.

Leading in aces was Kaylee Edwards with 9; in assists, Grayson Drake with 4; and kills, Madeleine Kahle finished with 2.
