Kudos to Chuck Guynn and his fiancée Peggi Hendrix for taking over ownership of Franklin Bowling Center.

Before the sale of the Armory Drive business was announced Friday, rumors around town were the 32-lane bowling alley was closing. That would’ve been a terrible loss to Franklin, which already lost its movie theater.

Guynn and Hendrix purchased the bowling alley from Kathleen Perry, who owns another bowling alley in Easton, Md.

Perry purchased Franklin Bowling Center from Duane and Debbie Hagen in April 2008, with plans of moving to Franklin. She and her husband, Jimmy, were unable to sell their home in Maryland and decided to find a new owner for Franklin Bowling Center.

Guynn and Hendrix are willing to take a chance with a business that has been struggling, according to Perry. The business also happens to be in a town that’s struggling with the closing of International Paper and loss of 1,100 jobs.

Guynn and Hendrix saw some the value in keeping the bowling alley going.

That’s good news for Franklin. Entertainment in small towns is important. Entertainment for families and youth is even more important. Bowling is something everyone can enjoy.
