WINDSOR—Authorities are looking for a man who attempted to break into a Windsor home on Tuesday while the occupant was there.

The suspect was carrying a shotgun, police said.

Major Joseph Willard with Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office said the burglar approached the home off Pondview Lane just before 10 a.m. Pondview Lane is off Walters Highway just south of Windsor.

A man inside the home came to the door, and the suspect ran into some nearby woods, according to authorities.

“We tried to track him, but were unsuccessful,” Willard said.

The suspect is described as a black male about 5-foot-10, wearing dark clothing.

Willard said the incident might be connected to a string of recent break-ins in the area.

“We’re having a lot all through the area,” he said.
