Norris H. Ross

NEWSOMS—Norris H. Ross, 73, of Newsoms, died Aug. 21, 2010, at his home.

Ross was born in Gumbo, Mo., to the late Hilda Ross.

He was a retired USN Chief Petty Officer after 20 years, an electrician for Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring in January 2000 after which he received his CDL license and was driving an 18-wheeler coast to coast for two years. After a few years at home, he decided to work with his wife at Tidewater Auto Auction until he took ill.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Ross of 35 years; sons Darrell Ross of Missouri, Richard H. Ross (Carole) of Virginia Beach and John J. Carotenuto Jr. (Janelle) of Arkansas; daughters Tammy Darden (Dennis) of Branchville, Laurie Vaughan of Mechanicsville, Danetta Jankosky (James) of Virginia Beach, Karen Daly (Marc) of Indiana and Kelly Smith (Larry) of Virginia Beach; 20 grandchildren, Michael R. Dominic 27, Casey, 23, Travis Reed, 21, Cody 16, Rheanna, 18, Michael Wallace, 16, Leah 13, Danny, 10, Johnny, 13, Amanda, 20, Kayleigh, 19, Jonathan Ross, 18, Chelsea, 15, Samantha, 13, John Jr., 8, Shane, 20, Travis Leon, 18, Zachery, 16, Matthew, 14, Ashlynne 2 1/2; and two great-grandchildren Kylin, 18 months, and Aiden 18 months; siblings Clara Moses, Bill Ross (Barbara), Bonnie Skaggs (Bob) and Marilyn Rawson (Red), all of Missouri; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at his home, 29043 Main St., Newsoms, Sunday at 1:30 p.m., after which there will be a social gathering.
