COURTLAND—A Capron man accused of shooting a gun inside his home and assaulting a police officer has pleaded not guilty to four felony and three misdemeanor charges in Southampton County Circuit Court.

Mayo Pulley, 38, faces charges of felony eluding, driving under the influence, unlawfully shooting in an occupied dwelling, assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, driving after forfeiting his license, resisting arrest and speeding.

The charges stem from two separate incidents last year.

Pulley is accused of driving under the influence last September and attempting to elude a Virginia state trooper. According to court documents, the trooper tried to stop Pulley on Route 35 near Dickens Lane for speeding.

Pulley allegedly continued to drive, traveling in excess of 90 mph on back roads before losing control of his vehicle on a curve and crashing into a tree.

The other charges stem from an incident last November when deputies attempted to arrest Pulley for shooting a gun in his home. He allegedly resisted arrest and struck a deputy sheriff in the face.

Pulley is scheduled for trial on all charges on Oct. 28.
