Students can learn about self-publishing

FRANKLIN—A new course being offered at Paul D. Camp Community College will help authors and business professionals learn how to effectively publish their own work.

Deana Riddle, founder and chief executive officer of New Vision Media, will teach Independent Publishing at the Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin and on the Hobbs Suffolk Campus.

An introduction to the course will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin and 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Hobbs Suffolk Campus. Participants will meet Riddle, receive a course overview and may ask questions.

Class will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 29-Oct. 27, in Franklin, and 2 to 4 p.m.Saturdays, Sept. 29-Oct. 27, in Suffolk. The cost is $149 with a $35 material fee. Registration may be completed now or during the introductory session. Space is limited to 15 students at each campus.

The course also will guide students through each step of packaging, printing, distributing, promoting and selling of books.

“Independent publishing is still a relatively young industry, but is growing at an astounding rate,” said Riddle.

Riddle is author of the “2009 Writer Watchdog Self-Publishing Directory.”
