IOW to consider sharing human resources with schools

ISLE OF WIGHT—Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors may take a step toward sharing services with the school district.

The Board of Supervisors will consider an agreement to share its department of human resources with the School Board. Under the proposed agreement, both county and school human resources employees would report to Judy Lee, the school district’s human resources director.

County employees, however, would still be subject to county policies and procedures.

The county’s human resources director position is currently vacant. Sharing departments that are duplicated in the county and the schools has been a topic of discussion for years.

For the fiscal year 2010, $83,153 was budgeted for the position.

If approved, the agreement would be retroactive to July 1 and run until June 30, 2011. It would be “automatically renewed” for successive one year terms unless either the School Board or the county delivers proper notice of termination.
