GATESVILLE—A 16-year-old Windsor girl has been charged in connection with a fiery July 23 car accident that left her passenger dead.
Emilie Thiery, who was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, allegedly drove her mini-van into the path of a tractor-trailer in Gatesville.
Thiery’s passenger, Jessica Lynne Smith, 20, of Norfolk was killed. Due to the fire following impact, it took dental records to identify Smith.
According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, Thiery failed to stop on state Highway 37 and pulled into the path of the tractor-trailer driven by Scottie Howard, 29, of Thomasville, on U.S. 158.
Thiery and front-seat passenger, Kenneth Thiery, 46, were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Howard and his passenger, Kirby Rowe, 15, were not injured.
