FRANKLIN—A 16-year-old Franklin boy was arrested Monday after breaking into a home and stealing $500 worth of jewelry, police said.

Franklin Police aren’t releasing the suspect’s name because he is a juvenile.

Lt. Tim Whitt said a visitor pulled up in front of a home in the 300 block of Beaman Street at about 10:16 a.m. The visitor called police after he saw the suspect, dressed in all black, come from behind the home, jump a fence and ride away on a bicycle.

“The officers located him on the tracks near Beaman Street and a foot pursuit ensued,” Whitt said.

After a short chase, and with the help of some citizens, the suspect was found hiding behind an apartment building on Beaman Street. Officers took the suspect into custody and found the jewelry, which was identified by the owner.

Whitt said the suspect broke out a window to get into the home.

The teen suspect was charged with burglary, grand larceny and destruction of private property. He was released to a parent.
