Southampton County girls win Suffolk, Chesapeake tourneys

The Southampton County Girls 14U softball team won the Fourth of July tournament at Suffolk Youth Complex and Pony East Zone Championship in southern Chesapeake.
Led by Falon Williams and Ashley Britt pitching, the team had a combined 9-1 record for both tournaments while outscoring their opponents 102-49.
During the tournament in Suffolk, the girls won three straight games and beat Southern Chesapeake 13-3 in the championship game.
Margaret Gadsby received the game ball for the championship game and Demone Brickhouse was the tournament’s most valuable player.
During the Pony East Zone Championship, Southampton beat undefeated Little Creek National 14-0 for the championship.
Britt got the game ball for this game.
Also in this tournament, the girls won the hit, throw and run competition. Whitley Smith had the longest hit competition; Kate Wachsmann, the longest throw; and Lacora Ellis, the fastest run.
Other members of the team included Cary Beahm, Chelsea Beltrami, Shelby Billups, Heather Bradshaw, Zoe Dunlow, Talisha Jenkins and Tyler Stephenson.
