Participants visited the Eiffel Tower in Paris during the day and at night, Versailles Estate, the Place Du Sentre from the 14th Century and saw many paintings, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is recognized as the most famous painting in history.

They also visited Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in Europe. Construction on the church began in 1163.

From Paris, the travelers took a train to Barcelona, Spain. They went to Cathar Castles and Temple of Sagrada Familia. The latter is a Catholic church in Barcelona that has been under construction since 1882 and is scheduled for completion in 2026.

French teacher Michelle Morningstar and Spanish teacher Maria Hudson took students on the trip.

Southampton County artist Russell Schools Jr. will have a one-person show entitled “Journeys” at Suffolk Museum, 118 Bosley Ave.

Suffolk Art League will host an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. The exhibit will be on display through Sept. 2. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. There is no charge.

Schools is winner of the Suffolk Art League’s 2009 Annual Juried Exhibition.

Ten East Pavilion nursing home residents this week visited Walter Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland for a program with the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. Residents got to see several animals.

Residents who went were Martha Blythe, Leona Harrell, Lydia Griggs, Cilda Edwards, Evie Fowler, Denise Baggett, Curtis Worrell, Bertha Griffin, Gladys Burros and Pat Beaman.
