COURTLAND—Southampton County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the county’s office center to consider a conditional use permit for Sebrell Hunt Club to operate a campground.

“It’s for their own use,” said Beth Lewis, secretary for the planning commission. “They would like to be able to park campers out there while they’re having hunt club activities for the hunt club members to stay in.”

The property is zoned for agricultural use and is located on Rosedale Drive, a private road, just east of the intersection with Route 35.

The county zoning ordinance, Lewis said, calls the hunt club’s plan to park campers on their property a campground, which requires a conditional use permit.

The site is approximately 2.02 acres, but the hunt club is currently using less than an acre. Club members would like to put in eight camper sites.

“The people that stay in the campers will use the restrooms and kitchen facilities that are in the existing clubhouse, so there won’t be any new water or sewer hookups out there,” Lewis said.
