FRANKLIN—Franklin Baptist Church has selected a new pastor to replace Dr. Richard Childress, who left one year ago.

The Rev. Brent Kimlick on Sept. 7 will take over pastoral duties at the church, which has a congregation of about 500 and regular Sunday attendance of 150, search committee member Trina Stout said Friday.

“Franklin Baptist Church is very excited about their new senior minister,” Stout said.

Kimlick and his wife, the Rev. Michelle Kimlick, have been co-pastors of Bruington Baptist Church in King and Queen County since June 2006.

Franklin Baptist Church hired only Brent Kimlick.

“She (Michelle Kimlick) is not interested,” Stout said. “She is going back to school for (training in) counseling.”

The seven-member search committee headed by Bill Howell received about 60 resumes for the job and narrowed the field down to 12 and then four before choosing Kimlick, who has a background in banking. He has been a pastor for four years.

Before going to Bruington, he did his pastoral internship with the Rev. Mike Clingenpeel at River Road Baptist Church in Richmond. Clingenpeel is a former pastor of Franklin Baptist Church.

Kimlick likes to travel and cook. He and his wife have three daughters.

Childress left Franklin Baptist Church after six years to become senior pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C.
