FRANKLIN—Robert Rudolph “Bobby” Edwards, 79, died July 20, 2010, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Bobby was born in Murfreesboro, N.C., to Reuben B. and Julia Vinson Edwards.
Bobby was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a graduate of the Crater Criminal Justice Academy.
Bobby was a self-employed barber, Home Benificial Life Insurance agent, Southampton County Deputy Sheriff, employee of Parker Oil Co. and an attendant at Purviance Funeral Home.
A former resident of Boykins, he was a charter member of Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
Bobby was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Jean Griffin Edwards.
Left to cherish Bobby’s memory are his wife, Nancy B. Edwards; son Bruce Edwards (Sandy) of Franklin; granddaughters Kimberly Edwards of Cary, N.C, and Megan Edwards of Franklin; stepchildren Duane Tucker (Joanna), and Kyla and Canyon Tucker, all of Bayfield, Colo.; daughter Debbie Jenkins (John); grandsons Daniel and Andrew Jenkins, both of Franklin; brother, Wayne Edwards (Linda) of Wilmington, N.C.; aunt, Pearl Bennett of Murfreesboro; and several cousins.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at the residence.
