COURTLAND—Rawls Museum Arts last week welcomed a new teacher to its Summer Camp Art Program.

Jill Tiderman, a high school art teacher at Indian River in Chesapeake, taught children about Italy through the eyes of Michelangelo and DaVinci with projects that included Leonardo Notebooks and metal jewelry mania.

“All one needs to do is spend a title time with Jill and their world will somehow look a little brighter,” said Leigh Anne Chambers, director of the Rawls Museum Arts. “Jill Tiderman possesses an uncanny knack of being able to see not only her glass half full, but somehow convinces you that yours is as well.”

Tiderman is a mixed media artist as well as jeweler, working from her home studio in Suffolk. It’s commonplace to watch her pick up a piece of rusty metal or wire from the street with excitement of seeing it transformed into art. Her philosophy is to teach and share life through art.

There are slots available for the session from Monday, Aug. 2, through Friday, Aug. 6, of Summer Camp at RMA. Tuition is $50 for RMA members and $60 for non-members, and includes supplies and a snack.

“All about You in POP Art” will be held for students ages 5 through 8 from 9 a.m. to noon and 9 through 12, 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the Education Outreach Building at the museum at 22376 Linden St., Courtland.

Advanced registration required. To register or receive more information, call the museum at 653-0754. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday.
