FRANKLIN—Elizabeth Chandler Allen Hotchkiss, 52, passed away July 2, 2010, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Elizabeth fought a courageous battle with cancer with style and grace.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1957, in Richmond to the late Elizabeth Gwaltney Allen and Philemon Macon Allen Jr.
As president of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Elizabeth helped obtain the first digital mammogram machine.
She was a member of Franklin Garden Club.
Elizabeth belonged to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild, ECW and the Vestry.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Carter Walker Hotchkiss; daughter, Margaret Walker (Peggy) Hotchkiss of Charleston, S.C.; son, Allen Craigie Hotchkiss of Franklin; sister, Margaret Allen Vinson and her husband, Stephen, of Jamestown, N.C.; an uncle, William C. Ross of Pacolet, S.C.; and many cousins.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth was held Tuesday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin. The Revs. Edmund Pickup and Ben R. Duffey officiated.
A reception followed at the Pace House Inn, Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church Endowment Fund or Woodberry Forest Mother’s Fund, c/o Woodberry Forest School, Woodberry Forest, Va., 22989.
