FRANKLIN—Police are searching for the suspect from a Monday attempted robbery and shooting that left a Franklin man with a minor gunshot wound.

Police were called to the 700 block of Bolling Street for an argument at 12:48 a.m., said Franklin police Lt. Tim Whitt.

“While en route, they received another call that shots had been fired,” Whitt said.

While investigating, police received word that a shooting victim had arrived at Southampton Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his face.

Victim Tanji Wiggins told police he was walking when a man approached him and asked if he had any crack cocaine or money.

When Wiggins answered “no,” the assailant allegedly pulled out a gun and attempted to rob him.

Wiggins and the suspect began to struggle, and the assailant “fired several shots,” Whitt said.

The suspect is described as light-skinned, with a muscular build and dreadlocks in his hair. Whitt said he is possibly from Suffolk.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Franklin Police Department at 562-8575 or Franklin Crime Solvers at 562-8599. Information leading to an arrest can earn the caller a reward of up to $1,000.
