Sunday’s heat 1-degree shy of record

Sunday’s high temperature of 102 was just shy of tying the record of 103 set on June 27, 1952.

Franklin experienced three days of record-breaking or tying heat last week. Thursday’s high in Franklin hit 102 degrees, shattering the previous record of 96 set in 1956. Tuesday’s high of 98 eclipsed the previous mark of 95 set in 1949. Wednesday’s high was 99, tying a mark set in 1981.

Temperatures are expected to moderate by Wednesday.

According to the website weatherunderground.com, Franklin’s high temperature is expected to top out around 97 degrees on today and the mid-90s on Tuesday. High temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday are expected to fall to the low 80s.

Average highs for this time of year are in the mid-to upper-80s, according to weatherunderground.com.
