RICHMOND—Brent Mason of Franklin took first in a professional singles event at the American Cornhole Organization’s Pro Spotlight tournament in Richmond on Saturday.

Mason defeated six opponents in the double-elimination tournament to take the title, defeating a player from Virginia Beach 21-15 in the final match.

Mason also teamed up with Ryan McClunz of Franklin for the doubles division at the Richmond tournament, which was held at Bailey’s Sports Bar and Grille. The pair finished in third place.

Mason a few years ago began playing the backyard game at a friend’s home. He began playing in ACO events a few weeks ago, taking third in a singles competition at Virginia Beach on June 12.

Mason, who works for Coastal Agri Business, hopes to compete in another professional ACO event on July 17 in Virginia Beach.
