Smith, Hicks receive FHS sports honors

FRANKLIN—Franklin High School seniors Denzel Smith and Shaleeta Hicks received the Bronco and Broncette awards during the Spring Sports Athletic Awards Night on Monday.

The awards are given to a male student and female student who coaches believe exemplify exceptional athletic ability. Recipients are chosen for their attitude, academics, number of sports played and overall achievement.

Hicks participated in varsity softball,track, winter and fall cheerleading, and volleyball. Smith played varsity football and basketball.

Both are in the top 5 percentile of their class.

Also during the program, state Delegate Rosalyn Tyler, D-Jarratt, and the General Assembly recognized athlete Kiara Lee. Yvonne Rose presented the award for Lee’s outstanding performance in basketball and academics.

Receiving most valuable player awards were Rachel Sing for softball, Lawrence Parham for baseball, Victoria Barrett for soccer, Shaleeta Hicks for girls’ track, Justin Grant for boys’ track, Ciara Vaughan for girls’ tennis, and Damien Britt for boys’tennis.
