Bronco awards scholarships

FRANKLIN—Local high school students Rebecca Babski, Forrest Best, Richard Asbell and Lindsay Raulston received college scholarships from Bronco Federal Credit Union.

Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who are Bronco members and have excelled in scholastics, school and community activities, and contributions to the area.

Babski attends Smithfield High School and will be attending University of Virginia. She is the valedictorian of her graduating class, team captain of three varsity sports teams and president of the Beta Club.

Best graduated from Southampton Academy and has been accepted at James Madison University and Virginia Tech, and is waiting to hear from the University of Richmond. She was the salutatorian, has been active in sports and volunteers at the Walter Cecil Rawls Library in the Summer Reading Program.

Asbell attends Lakeland High School and will be attending James Madison University. He is the valedictorian and has played varsity volleyball, serving as captain of the team for the two years.

Raulston graduated from Southampton Academy and will be attending Mary Washington University in the pre-med program. She is valedictorian and has been the No. 1 singles and doubles varsity tennis player since the eighth grade.

Raulston also played basketball and volleyball and was involved with acting. She is the Virginia state champion of the Wendy’s Heisman Award. Of more than 54,000 applicants, she was one of the 102 national finalists.

Babski, Best and Asbell received a Bronco Scholarship. Raulston received the John Alan Glasgow Memorial Scholarship.
