Longtime Ivor Furniture co-owner dies

Prominent Ivor businesswoman MaryAnn Carr West died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. She was 78.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ivor Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery.

Mrs. West was preceded in death last year by her husband, James Russell West, with whom she owned and operated Ivor Furniture Co. for most of their lives.

She was a native of Walters and graduate of Carrsville High School. She met her future husband while waitressing at her sister’s restaurant in Windsor.

She was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities over the years.

Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn West Hall of Smithfield and Alice West Scott of Ivor, and five grandchildren, Russ Frohman, Ashlyn Scott Scarborough, Dusty Scott, and Savannah and Hayley Hall.
