Freedom struggle never ends

On this Memorial Day weekend, we join countless others in paying tribute to the memory of those who have fought and died for this country.

This year’s observance is especially poignant given the implications of the ongoing war against terrorism. Since last Memorial Day, more than 400 heroic men and women of the U.S. military have given their lives for the freedom and safety of others.

They join the legions who have paid the ultimate price for more than two centuries to not only keep this nation free but to make it a safer and better place.

Those of us left should resolve that their sacrifices should not be in vain. Protecting freedom is a never-ending struggle.

Among the ways the average person can help are to simply be a good citizen, obey the law, be informed, vote and strive every day to do what’s right.
