COURTLAND—Lindsay Raulston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Raulston of Franklin, has committed to playing tennis at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg.

Raulston has played No. 1 singles at Southampton Academy since eight grade, and plays competitive tennis year round. She is ranked No. 25 in USTA Mid-Atlantic Region in Girl’s 18 and under singles and No. 7 tennis recruit in Virginia for Class of 2010 by www.tennisrecruiting.net.

Raulston said she was impressed with the Mary Washington’s strong tennis program. The Eagles have won their conference the past seven years and played in the NCAA tournament 21 seasons, including the last 12 in a row.

The team is consistently ranked in the top 20 in the nation in Division III schools. The school’s tennis facility has 12 outdoor courts and six indoor courts.

Raulston credits her recent success in tournaments to her coach, Ken Cussick, who has helped her improve her backhand and serve.

Raulston continues to play competitively in USTA tournaments, having recently won the William & Mary Girl’s 18 and under singles tournament in Williamsburg.
