Woodruff, Wis.—Martha I. Kauss, age 100, formerly of Port Edwards and Eagle River, WI died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Seasons of Life Hospice Home in Woodruff, WI.
Funeral Services are 2:00 PM Friday at Moravian Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.. Rev. Tammie Rinker will officiate. Burial in Restlawn Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Ritchay Funeral Home of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. is assisting the family.
Martha was born March 2, 1910 in the Town of Carson, Portage County, WI to Nels and Jenny (Jensen) Jepson. She attended school in Rudolph, Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids and nursing school. Martha married Albert V. Kauss on November 17, 1930 in Stillwater, Minnesota. He died Dec. 24, 1976.
Martha worked as a nurse at several hospitals and later as a cook and salad girl for many years at the Hotel Mead. She was active in volunteer work and belonged to senior citizens at Port Edwards and at the Wis. Rapids Moravian Church. She formerly lived in Port Edwards and for the past 17 years with her daughter, June Kuehl, in Eagle River, WI. Martha was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cards and her flowers and garden.
On March 2nd of this year Martha celebrated her 100th birthday with all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Martha is survived by four children, Jack (Nellie) Kauss of Franklin, VA, Floyd (Alyce) Kauss of Wisconsin Rapids, June (Melvin) Kuehl of Eagle River, WI and Diane (Richard) Bloemers of Brown Deer, WI. Martha is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and two great great step grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; son at birth; six brothers, Edward, Jacob, Hans, Elmer, Donald and Benny; and two sisters, Dorothy Tessmer and Florence Pelot.
