FRANKLIN—A Newport News man faces one misdemeanor and two felony charges in Franklin for allegedly stealing the identity of a Missouri resident.

Abdul Rahim Leigh, 30, of Newport News was arrested by that city’s police on Wednesday. A day earlier, Franklin police received a complaint of identity theft from a person in Hillsboro, Mo. The victim was alerted of suspicious credit card use in Franklin by his bank.

Based upon the Franklin Police Department’s investigation and witness information, arrest warrants were obtained for Leigh. He is charged with credit card fraud, credit card forgery and receiving a credit card with intent to use without owner’s consent.

Franklin police spokesman Tim Whitt said it unclear how Leigh obtained the victim’s credit card information. Whitt also said authorities elsewhere in the region are also investigating possible use of the victim’s credit card.

“There’s no telling where else he may have used it in the Hampton Roads area,” Whitt said.

Additional charges could be pending.
