COURTLAND—Southampton High School’s Brandie Hunt has signed a letter of intent to play softball for St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C.

“I knew she was going to sign somewhere,” said Lady Indians Coach Susan Melbye. “I am just glad she found a school that she likes and feels comfortable playing at.”

A senior infielder, Hunt said she feels like St. Andrews —a NCAA Division II University 30 miles south of Pinehurt, N.C.—is a place she can call home.

“I felt like I was a part of the team already when I went for my official visit,” she said. “I can see myself getting along with the coaches and girls.”

Hunt’s parents like the school, especially since it’s in a small town.

“When I talked to the coaches, they were real nice and receptive when she tried out,” said her father, Brian Hunt. “They were really impressed with her abilities and would like to start her next year.”

“We are just so proud of her,” her mother, Wanda Hunt added. “She has worked hard.”

“We are all excited to see where she goes at the next level,” Melbye said. “And we are looking for her to do the same big things there that she has done here, to play her heart out and that’s what she does every single game for me.”

“GPS says that the school is 4 hours from Franklin, but it does not matter where they play the first game, we are going to be there,” Brian Hunt said.
