Last year’s Franklin High School district runner-up girls’ softball team continues to struggle this season.

The Lady Bronocs lost 22-5 to Sussex Wednesday. The team’s record is 0-6 overall, including two losses in their district.

“We lost a lot of players from last year,” said Franklin Head Coach Shonna Rawls, who is her second year at the helm. “Those losses have really affected our game.”

Against Sussex, Franklin had a slow second inning, but picked up momentum with catcher Rachel Sing’s outstanding performance throughout the game.

While there were over 10 walks in the first four innings, Sing controlled the ball, made plays and gained outs. She also led the team in hits, bringing in 2 of the 5 runs.

The Lady Broncos have six more district games including a rematch with Sussex. “We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Rawls said.

Rightfielder Takeisha Rawls is very positive about her team.

“I’m proud of us,” Rawls said. “We’re improving, but we’re not perfect and we made a lot of careless mistakes. With practice, we’ll get better and stronger as a team.”
