SHS softball team defeats Sussex Central, Prince Edward

Southampton High School defeated Sussex Central on Monday and Prince Edward on Tuesday, outscoring its opponents 29-4.
The Lady Indians defeated Sussex 19-2 in five innings and put up 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Southside District foe Prince Edward 10-2.
Southampton has completed the first cycle of the new Southside District with a record of 5-2 and an overall record of 8-2.
Southampton pitcher Janie Young held Prince Edward to two hits over seven innings and surrendered one earned run.
The Lady Indians took advantage of a Carla Matthews walk in the first inning. Matthews advanced to third on two passed balls and scored on a Brandie Hunt RBI triple.
Lady Indian Marisa Cabell started the second inning off with a stand-up double. Freshman Emily Nelson advanced Cabell to third with a single. Hannah Turner then hit into a fielder’s choice to score Cabell.
In the bottom of the third inning, Megan Revelle led off with a triple and scored on a Brandie Hunt groundout.
In the top of the fourth the Lady Eagles put their first two batters on with walks; both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Then an RBI single brought in both runners.
Young struck out the next two Prince Edward hitters to get the Lady Indians out of the inning.
Southampton’s bats came alive during the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lady Indians sent 10 girls to the plate, piling up 7 hits and 6 runs for the win.
Cabell, Nelson, and Turner went 2-for-3 on the day. Revelle went 2-for-4 and had two triples, while Hunt went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.
