Holdsworth hurls Tidewater to two victories

Tidewater Academy pitcher Hayes Holdsworth maintained a perfect 8-0 season as the team defeated Blessed Sacrament Huguenot 12-1 and Kenton Forest School 1-0 this week.

Holdsworth struck out a combined 26 batters in both games and gave up a total of 5 hits.

Tidewater’s overall record is 14-1 and 9-0 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.

Against Blessed Sacrement Huguenot, Holdsworth struck out 13 batters and gave up no hits in the 6 innings she pitched.

Tidwater’s Samantha Spain went 3-for-3, including a triple, 4 runs, 2 RBIs, 1 walk and 1 stolen base.

Teammates Marianna Stephenson was 2-for-3, including 1 double, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases, while Cary Beahm went 2-for-4, including 1 triple, 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base.

Holdsworth was 2-for-4, including 2 doubles, 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Against Kenton Forest, Tidewater scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on 9 hits and committed 2 errors.

Holdsworth pitched the 10 innings, striking out 13 while walking 3.

Standouts for Tidewater Academy were Marianna Stephenson, who went 2-for-4, scoring the winning run and grabbing 2 stolen bases.

Teammate Rebecca Renney also went 2-for-4 with 1 stolen base. Holdsworth singled in the winning run.
