FRANKLIN—The Franklin Planning Commission will give final consideration for a proposed Tractor Supply Co. store on Armory Drive at its meeting on Thursday.

Tractor Supply wants to build a 19,097-square-foot building on 2.2 acres west of Farm Fresh. The new store would face Armory Drive and have an adjacent 15,000-square-foot fenced-in outdoor display area.

An access road would be extended westbound in front of the new store’s parking lot for future development.

The planning commission meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers. No public hearing or discussion is scheduled or required for the commission’s final approval.

According to its website, Tractor Supply, which is based in Brentwood, Tenn., is the largest retail farm and ranch store in the nation, operating more than 800 stores in 40 states. Its stores sell work clothes, animal and pet supplies, power tools, riding mowers, and lawn and garden products.

Tractor Supply also specializes in agricultural fencing and livestock equipment.

If constructed, it would be the second in the Hampton Roads region after Gloucester. Currently the nearest Tractor Supply is in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. It occupies about one-half of a former Wal-Mart.
