BOYKINS—Joseph Wallace Ricks, 78, passed away April 20, 2010, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Southampton County, and was a son of the late Richard Edward (Dick) Ricks Sr. and Lina Belle Story Ricks.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Edwards Ricks, two brothers and two sisters, Millard H. Ricks, Franklin L. Ricks, Etheleen V. Ricks, and Ethel R. Benton.
Joe, who had many friends, was a member of Clarksbury Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and church treasurer. He was also a member of the Shiloh Hunt Club and the Meherrin Valley Hunt Club.
Left to cherish his memory are one sister, Marian R. Preedy of Chesapeake; two brothers, Richard E. Ricks Jr. of Boykins and Calvin E. Ricks(Sally) of Capron; nieces, nephews, cousins; and two sisters-in-law, Kaye Burgess (Henry) and Rebecca Hudson; a brother-in-law, Fletcher H. Edwards Jr.; and dear friend, Pearl (Dot) Baines and her family.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Clarksbury Baptist Church with the Rev. Durward Vaughan and the Rev. Hoyle B. Green officiating. Interment will follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7:30 pm at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, and other times at the home of Calvin and Sally Ricks, 19460 Rawlings Road in Capron.
