Virginia Department of Forestry has issued a high-risk fire weather advisory for Isle of Wight County through this week.

“We are in our spring fire season, which runs from Feb. 15 through the end of April,” said Bryan Alexander, a state forester for Isle of Wight County and Suffolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.

Although the area had plenty of rain in recent weeks, the low humidity and temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s combined with wind has created dry conditions, Alexander said.

“Wildland fires have tendency to be more severe due to changing weather, low humidity, longer daylight hours, and temperatures have been a lot warmer,” he said.

The county has not experienced any wildland fires in recent weeks.

Residents are reminded they can only burn from 4 p.m. to midnight.
