FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School girls’ tennis team dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Nandua on Thursday.

Coach Calvin Sing said his squad played “extremely well,” picking up victories by Cierra Vaughn at No. 2 singles, Tierra Carey at No. 4 singles and Yasmine Bottoms at No. 5 singles. Carey and Bottoms also teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles.

Sing said No. 1 singles player Diamond Bowers “played the best match of her career” before losing to Luz Diaz.

FHS’ Samantha Bruck lost at No. 3 singles, and Bowers and Vaughn couldn’t pull off the victory at No. 1 doubles.

The Lady Broncos had to forfeit the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches.

Eighth-graders Rebecca Gray and Kaitlyn Trotter played an exhibition doubles match. The Lady Broncos, after a week off for spring break, return to action April 12 at home against Southampton Academy.
