Southampton High School opened its soccer season Thursday with a 3-2 win over Windsor.

The Indians’ Cole Middleton scored on a penalty kick at the 11:55 mark of the first half. The Dukes locked the game up at 1-1 with a goal late in the period, and it stayed that way until the half.

Two goals in the second half by Ethan Lee put the Indians ahead 3-1.

The goalies on both ends of the field stayed very busy.

Windsor mounted an aggressive offensive push, but SHS goalie Luis Lino managed to keep it locked down to clinch the win.

The SHS junior-varsity squad also started its season with a 3-1 win. Scoring goals for the winners were Billy Birdsong with two and Johnny Tribbit with one.

Southampton starts conference play Monday at Bluestone and against Brunswick at home on Wednesday. The Indians face rival Franklin on Thursday at Armory Field.
