Richard C. Moore
WAKEFIELD—Richard Clement Moore, Jr., 64, died on March 3, 2010. He was the son of the late Richard Clement Moore and Mary Virginia Johnson Moore. He was predeceased by his only child, Richard Clement Moore, III.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Jessica Collins Moore of Wakefield and his brother Austin N. Moore and wife Peggy of Henrico, NC.
Mr. Moore was a native of Southampton County . After he graduated from Southampton High School, he attended Chowan College and earned an undergraduate degree from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). He received a master’s degree from East Carolina University.
In 1969, he began a thirty-three year tenure as an educator with the Sussex County Public Schools. During that time, he served as a teacher, assistant principal and principal before retiring as Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
After his retirement, he continued his professional and personal interests in adult education as a part time instructor with the adult GED classes.
He was a resident of Wakefield for forty years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Waverly, where he served the Vestry as Junior Warden. He was a councilman for the Town of Wakefield from 1986-1990. He was a past director of the Sussex Chamber of Commerce and a director of the Blackwater Regional Library Board (2006-2009).
Graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Macon B Walton officiating on Saturday, March 6,2010 at the Wakefield Cemetery. His family will receive friends after the service at the Moore home at 136 West Main Street, Wakefield and at other times at the residence.
