FRANKLIN—An overnight mix of rain, sleet and snow led to school delays and closings Wednesday.

Public schools in Franklin and Southampton County as well as Paul D. Camp Community College are operating on a two-hour delay. Schools in Isle of Wight County are closed, but 12-month employees are to report on a two-hour delay.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, pavement and air temperatures across Hampton Roads are anticipated to stay above freezing, with roads remaining slushy during the morning commute and into the early afternoon. Winds are expected to increase through the morning, with sustained speeds of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph possible.

VDOT reported minor to moderate road conditions in the area, meaning roads are passable, but there is the possibility for patches of ice or snow.

There is a 50 percent chance of more rain and snow showers today, with the high temperature expected to be near 43 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
