Alma M. Powell
COURTLAND—Alma Mae Powell, 93, former resident of Courtland, Virginia, devoted wife of the late Johnnie Boggs Powell, died Jan. 11, 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Allen and husband Robert of Courtland, Bettye Timmons of New Mexico, Christine Gordon of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, Louis Powell and wife Linda of Sanford, N.C.; grandchildren, Cathy Bradshaw, Cheryl Starke, Laurie Narduci, Robert Lynn Allen, Renee Sanchez, Elizabeth Porter, Todd Powell and Brian Powell; 11 great grandchildren, Michelle Benson, Whitney Worrell, Ashley Dull, Travis Starke, Griffin Powell, Sydney Powell, Tyler Powell, Landis Sanchez, Christian Sanchez, Matthew Porter and Shane Bradshaw; four great-great grandchildren, Pasley Benson, Gabriel Turner, Tucker Worrell and Reid Worrell, many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. She will be laid to rest in Courtland. In lieu of flowers the family request her contributions be made to Hope Haven Children’s Home, Good Samaritan House, P.O. Box 3203, Norfolk, Virginia 23514.
Alma was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a gentle, focused and determined person.
She was able to ignore her mobility difficulties, strong in her Christian faith and loved by her many friends.
