Alma B. Duck
Franklin – Alma Butler Duck, 91, widow of Jimmie Rowland Duck, died February 14, 2010 at her residence at the Village at Woods Edge. She was born in Isle of Wight County, a daughter of the late Soloman Valentine (Demus) and Elizabeth Rose Butler and was predeceased by a brother, Soloman Vernon Butler and a sister, Alice Butler Williams. Mrs. Duck was a 1935 graduate of Carrsville High School. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, its Faithful Servants Sunday School Class, and the Sallie Ray Camp Circle. She was a former Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Barbara D. Johnson (Tom) of Chesapeake; her son, J. Richard Duck (Harriet) of Franklin; one granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson of Greenville, NC; one step-grandson, Bain Ford (Wendy) of Centreville; and a step-great-granddaughter, Taylor Ford.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11am Thursday at Franklin Baptist Church with the Rev. Sharon James and the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends in the Great Room at the Village at Woods Edge from 7 to 8 pm Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Franklin Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 208 N.
