Southampton Schools closing early

Southampton Public Schools have announced an early closing for Friday due to inclement weather. The schools were set to close at 1:30 p.m. All activities for the school also are either canceled or postponed.

Franklin City Public Schools will remain open for the remainder of the school day.

“The temperature is nowhere near freezing, so I think we’re going to be OK,” said Franklin City Public Schools Transportation Director Ricky Blunt.

Meanwhile, the Sweetheart Dance at S.P. Morton Elementary School that was scheduled for Friday night has been canceled, as have the Franklin High School basketball games against Windsor.

The Franklin vs. Surry Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Games have been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 15, starting at 5:30 p.m. The girls are at Surry and the boys are at home.

The Franklin vs. Windsor games have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16, starting at 5:30 p.m. The girls are at Windsor and the boys are at home.

Isle of Wight County Schools also will remain open for now, said Katherine Goff, spokeswoman.
