Sheriff against budget cuts

To the Editor:

The citizens of Isle of Wight County will receive, via the U. S. Postal Service, an urgent notice from me through the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association, asking for their support in voting for rejection of the governor’s proposed budget that will slash an estimated 1,700 deputy positions across the state.

In this proposed cut, Isle of Wight County stands to lose at least seven deputies over the next two years. This will have a drastic impact on the services the Sheriff’s Office provides to its citizens.

If you receive this letter, please take the time to open it and read the message. If you agree, please join us in asking Delegate William Barlow and Sen. Fred

Quayle to vote against these funding cuts. Overwhelming support by the citizens may effectively preserve the funding level we need to continue providing services the citizens expect and deserve.

Sheriff C. W. Phelps
